Press Release
Strengthening Upstream Oil & Gas Support, Elnusa Completes 3D
OBN Zulu North Seismic Survey
Jakarta, 25 February 2026 – PT Elnusa Tbk (Elnusa) has once again demonstrated its capability as part of Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding in supporting the upstream
oil and gas activities of the Pertamina Group. Elnusa has successfully completed the 3D OBN Zulu North Seismic Survey project for its client, Pertamina Hulu Energi
Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ).
The survey, conducted in the waters of the Thousand Islands with a total surface survey area of 70.6 km², was completed in accordance with operational excellence
standards. The project delivered high-quality data and achieved zero Lost Time Injury (LTI). This accomplishment was attained despite challenging weather conditions
and a high level of operational complexity.
Offshore 3D seismic surveys are a subsurface data acquisition method used to obtain three-dimensional imaging of geological structures beneath the seabed. The
resulting data plays a strategic role in supporting more accurate and sustainable oil and gas exploration and field development activities. In this project, Elnusa
implemented Ocean Bottom Nodes (OBN) technology, in which seismic receivers are precisely positioned on the seabed, taking into account risk mitigation related to
various identified subsurface objects. This technology has proven effective in areas with dense infrastructure, such as production platforms and subsea pipeline
networks, ensuring that data quality and fold coverage are well maintained.
The survey was carried out in an area with ten adjacent production platforms, requiring meticulous planning, detailed execution, and strict supervision of operational,
safety, and security aspects. Operations commenced in late December 2025 and were successfully completed by the end of January 2026, in line with the targeted
schedule.
Fahzul MH Siregar, Elnusa’s Party Chief, stated, “The greatest challenge of this operation was the numerous obstacles within the survey area, including platforms,
subsea pipelines, shipwrecks, and others. However, through strong teamwork and solid collaboration, we successfully completed the operation safely and securely,”
said Fahzul.
In a similar vein, Elnusa’s Director of Operations, Andri Haribowo, remarked, “The successful execution of the 3D OBN Zulu North Seismic Survey stands as tangible
evidence of Elnusa’s operational capability in handling highly complex offshore projects. We highly appreciate the dedication, discipline, and collaboration of the entire
team in maintaining operational excellence standards and ensuring optimal data quality throughout the project. This achievement provides a strong foundation for
Elnusa to further expand future job opportunities, particularly in platform areas and regions with similar operational challenges,” stated Andri.
All work was carried out by 100% Indonesian personnel, supported by nine Indonesian-flagged vessels operating simultaneously. This level of complexity required
precise program management capabilities and coordinated fleet operations. Key challenges during the project included extreme weather conditions, with wind speeds
reaching up to 30 knots and wave heights of up to 2.5 meters, as well as the presence of various obstacles within the survey area. In facing such extreme weather
conditions, Elnusa consistently prioritized occupational health and safety aspects.
Appreciation was also expressed by Pertamina Hulu Energi Field Supervisor, Permana Citra Adi, who stated, “We appreciate the performance of the Elnusa team. The
entire program was executed properly and safely despite various safety challenges in the survey area. We are satisfied with the quality of the seismic data obtained.
Thank you, Elnusa,” he concluded.
This achievement further reinforces Elnusa’s readiness as part of Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding in supporting integrated upstream oil and gas activities. With
comprehensive competencies, Elnusa continues to deliver end-to-end solutions that prioritize safety, operational reliability, efficiency, and the utilization of innovation
and the latest technologies. Through solid collaboration and proven capabilities across various working areas, Elnusa remains committed to serving as a strategic
partner of the Pertamina Group in sustaining production and strengthening national energy resilience.
