Press Release

Indonesia’s First VR School Bus Targets 2 Million Students Per
Year: Opening the Door to the Future of Education
Nusameta, a unit of WIR Group, introduces immersive technology to expand access
to education and spark student interest in STEM

Jakarta, May 28, 2025 – Nusameta, a business unit of WIR Group (PT WIR ASIA
Tbk, IDX: WIRG) focusing on immersive technology and virtual ecosystem
development, reaffirms its commitment to advancing education in Indonesia through
the Sekolah VR Keliling (Mobile VR School) initiative. This innovative program is
designed to reach schools across the country and introduce a new way of learning,
more engaging, inclusive, and relevant for the next generation.

Using Virtual Reality (VR) technology, Sekolah VR Keliling delivers immersive
educational experiences directly to school grounds and public spaces. Children are
invited to step into the world of knowledge, exploring outer space, diving into
Indonesian history, and engaging with educational content that is interactive,
meaningful, and imaginative.

A 2020 study by PwC found that learning with VR technology can train students up
to four times faster than traditional classroom methods. Additionally, students who
learn through VR are 3.75 times more emotionally connected to the material, leading
to deeper understanding and retention.

Across developed nations, VR has become a pillar of educational innovation. The
United States, United Kingdom, and Australia are among the pioneers in integrating
VR into curriculums from elementary to university levels. Students now go beyond
textbooks to experience interactive simulations, from space travel to global history
and virtual lab experiments, all in a safe and immersive environment. In the UK,
institutions have reported significantly improved knowledge retention and student
engagement with VR-based modules. In Australia, edtech startup Mindflight7 uses
VR to foster critical thinking and empathy, particularly in cross-cultural and historical
learning. This proves that VR has evolved far beyond being just a visual aid, it is now
a powerful educational medium that transforms how students absorb, understand,
and experience knowledge.

The Nusameta initiative has also received strong public support. Rahayu Saraswati,
Deputy Chair of Commission VII of the House of Representatives of Indonesia
and also a Program Initiator of Sekolah VR Keliling, stated “Sekolah VR Keliling is

a gateway to a new way of learning, bringing technology to rural areas and bridging
educational inequality. This technology exists to inspire, because we believe anyone
can succeed, as long as they dare to imagine.”

Dirgayuza Setiawan, an education figure and founder of multiple youth
development initiatives who also serves as Program Initiator, emphasized the
emotional and psychological impact of immersive learning, “Sekolah VR Keliling not
only brings technology to schools but also fosters hope and builds confidence. When
students board the bus and explore the virtual world with their peers, they are
developing new ways of thinking, more critical, more creative, and more empowered
to understand the world around them.”

The program is currently in its Proof of Concept phase in Jakarta and is expected to
expand to other regions. Supported by the Yayasan Pendidikan Kader Bangsa
Indonesia and several sponsors, the initiative utilizes passenger buses converted
into mobile immersive theaters, fully equipped with advanced VR systems. This is
the first concept of its kind globally and reflects a strong commitment to delivering
inclusive and high-quality education to children across Indonesia.

Each Sekolah VR Keliling unit can deliver immersive learning content to
approximately 76,800 students per academic year across elementary, junior high,
and senior high school levels. Nusameta aims to deploy 25 VR school buses,
reaching over 1.9 million students across the country. The program specifically
targets public and private schools with limited access to educational technology, with
the goal of inspiring students, unlocking opportunities through technology-based
learning, and encouraging young Indonesians to engage in the development of the
nation’s technological future.

With its “technology for all” spirit, Nusameta continues to pave the way toward a
more equitable, inclusive, and globally competitive education system in Indonesia.
