A Tangible Commitment to Environmental Care: Elnusa Holds Clean
Coastal Action at Medaksa Beach
Cilegon, 5 November 2024 – PT Elnusa Tbk (Elnusa) continues its commitment to environmental care through the Clean Coastal Action,
held at Medaksa Beach, Cilegon, Banten. This event is a tangible step forward in the company’s ongoing #noplasticisfantastic campaign,
launched during Elnusa’s 55th anniversary celebration in September. This initiative represents the company’s direct contribution to
addressing the pressing issue of plastic waste polluting Indonesia’s marine environment.
Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest amount of marine waste globally. According to a report by the Ministry of Environment
and Forestry (KLHK), 80% of ocean waste in Indonesia originates from land-based activities, with 30% of it consisting of plastic waste, much
of which ends up in the sea.
Plastic waste in the ocean poses a serious threat to marine ecosystems and the animals living within them, impacting both the environment
and economies that depend on marine resources. The United Nations (UN) report warns that by 2050, the amount of plastic in the ocean
could exceed the fish population if effective preventive measures are not taken.
In addition to Elnusa Group employees, representatives from the local Environmental Agency (DLH), district officials, village authorities,
local police, and residents of Medaksa Beach also participated in this event. Through this collaboration, Elnusa hopes to raise public
awareness of the importance of protecting the marine environment.
Hera Handayani, Director of Human Resources and General Affairs at Elnusa, stated, “Through this Clean Coastal Action, we are expanding
this movement by inviting employees and various stakeholders to join together in cleaning plastic waste from the coastline. We hope this
small step can inspire greater change for the preservation of our marine ecosystems,” said Hera.
During the event, Elnusa also donated a three-wheeled vehicle to Pulomerak District. This vehicle is expected to help accelerate waste
management, especially in areas that are difficult to reach by large vehicles.
Since its launch during the company’s 55th anniversary, the #noplasticisfantastic campaign has transformed the use of single-use plastic
bottles within the company, encouraging employees to use tumblers at all company events. Through this campaign, Elnusa seeks to foster
a shift in attitudes toward plastic usage and inspire further efforts to protect the marine environment.
“We believe that each individual can contribute to waste reduction through small changes in daily habits. We hope that this action and
campaign will inspire many to take greater care in preserving the environment,” concluded Hera Handayani.
Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14, Life Below Water, which focuses on marine ecosystem protection, Elnusa is
committed to supporting environmental sustainability through eco-friendly programs and campaigns designed to positively impact both
society and the surrounding environment.
