PGN Continues to Reduce Carbon Emissions, Achieving 24,861 Tons CO₂e
Jakarta – PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), as Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, continues to
reinforce its commitment to Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060 target. PGN’s carbon
emission reduction performance has shown a consistent upward trend in recent years. In
2023, the Company recorded a reduction of 598.39 tons CO₂e, which increased to 29,722
tons CO₂e in 2024. As of August 2025, PGN has reduced emissions by 24,861 tons CO₂e,
exceeding its internal target by 19.7%, with the figure expected to grow further by year-end.
This achievement underscores PGN’s determination to advance decarbonization while
strengthening its role as a provider of transitional energy. The positive trajectory reflects the
effectiveness of PGN’s decarbonization strategies, which include operational efficiency,
optimization of natural gas utilization, and the development of clean energy initiatives.

decarbonization agenda,” said Mirza Mahendra, PGN’s Director of Strategy and Business

Natural gas, PGN’s core commodity, plays a critical role in these reductions. Recognized as a
cleaner energy source compared to other fossil fuels, natural gas serves as a transitional
energy toward a greener future. PGN is maximizing its use through the household gas
network (jargas), the expansion of compressed natural gas (CNG) and beyond-pipeline
infrastructure, as well as the development of biomethane from organic waste.

“The biomethane project is a strategic initiative that integrates the transformation of energy,
food, and water. By processing agricultural waste such as palm residues, rice straw, and
livestock manure into biogas and upgrading it to biomethane, PGN is able to inject this
renewable gas into its existing pipeline network,” Mirza added.
The biomethane project has the potential to further reduce emissions while promoting
circular economy practices and organic waste management. It also supports sustainable
food transformation and the distribution of clean energy to consumers, offering a viable
green energy alternative.
PGN remains committed to developing initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Company’s ESG commitment goes beyond
climate change, encompassing broader aspects of Environmental, Social, and Governance
