Mitsui Invests in Indonesian Food Distribution and Cold-chain Logistic Company
Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ("Mitsui", Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Kenichi Hori) has reached an agreement to invest
in PT. Pangan Lestari ("PL ", Head Office: Surabaya, Indonesia), one of the leading food distribution and cold-chain
logistic companies in Indonesia.
PL offers wide variety of food products, such as daily necessities to frozen and chilled products, to major retailers, restaurants,
hotels, and other customers throughout Indonesia by taking advantage of its strong own dry and cold-chain logistics.
In addition, PL has its own R&D facility called Innovation Center which develops menu/recipe and solution which apply those
products that PL offers.
With a population of approximately 270 million, Indonesia boasts the largest population in Southeast Asia and is expected to ex-
perience demographic dividend until around 2030. With a Real GDP growth rate expected to remain around 596, Indonesia isa
promising consumer market where increasing population with high economic growth takes place. In recent years, as the mid-
dle-income class in Indonesia grows, food culture has become more diversified, and consumer demand for food has begun to
shift from guantity to guality. Moreover, the demand for processed foods such as frozen and chilled foods is expected to expand
further in the future.
On the other hand, the food distribution and logistics in Indonesia is still considered inefficient structure which prevents the ex-
ponential growth of the frozen and chilled product market. Through its investment in PL, Mitsui will promote
the improvement of distribution functions and logistics efficiency, to solve social issues such as reducing food loss and
gasing traffic congestion.
Mitsui will contribute to enhance the guality of Indonesian consumers daily life by solving social issues through the expansion
of PL's business by leveraging its knowledge and expertise in food distribution and cold-chain logistics business.
Investasi Mitsui di Perusahaan Distribusi Makanan dan Logistik Rantai Pendingin Indonesia
Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (“Mitsui", Kantor Pusat: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Presiden dan CEO: Kenichi Hori) telah mencapai kesepakatan untuk
berinvestasi di PT, Pangan Lestari ("PL Kantor Pusat: Surabaya, Indonesia), salah satu perusahaan distribusi makanan dan
logistik rantai pendingin terkemuka di Indonesia.
PL mendistribusikan berbagai produk makanan, mulai dari kebutuhan sehari-hari hingga produk makanan beku, kepada
pengecer besar, restoran, hotel, dan pelanggan lainnya di seluruh Indonesia dengan memanfaatkan rantai logistik suhu ruang
dan pendingin yang kuat. Selain itu, PL memiliki fasilitas Pengembangan Produk sendiri yang disebut dengan "Pusat Inovasi
PL" yang mengembangkan menu/resep hingga solusi yang mempergunakan produk-produk yang didistribusikan oleh PL.
Dengan jumlah penduduk sekitar 270 juta jiwa, Indonesia merupakan negara dengan jumlah penduduk terbesar di Asia Teng-
gara dan diperkirakan akan mengalami bonus demografis hingga tahun 2030, Dengan tingkat pertumbuhan PDB riil yang
diperkirakan akan tetap berada di kisaran 596, Indonesia merupakan pasar konsumen yang menjanjikan dimana
jumlah penduduk meningkat dengan cepat diikuti dengan pertumbuhan ekonomi yang tinggi. Dalam beberapa tahun
terakhir seiring dengan pertumbuhan kelas menengah di Indonesia, budaya pangan menjadi lebih terdiversifikasi dan
permintaan konsumen terhadap pangan mulai beralih dari kuantitas ke kualitas. Selain itu permintaan terhadap makanan
olahan seperti makanan beku diperkirakan akan semakin meningkat di masa yang akan datang.
Di sisi lain struktur distribusi dan logistik pangan di Indonesia masih dinilai belum efisien sehingga dapat menghambat
pertumbuhan eksponensial untuk pasar produk makanan beku. Melalui investasinya di PL, Mitsui akan mendorong.
